Be Inspiring Leadership

Keynotes & Breakout Sessions

David Long is available for keynote addresses, breakout sessions, and leadership development workshops across corporate, educational, and conference environments. Every session is built on the Reclaiming Brilliance™ framework – a system developed from decades of real-world leadership experience and refined through hundreds of hours of coaching, mentoring, consulting, and speaking engagements across forty-six states.

Whether you need a high-energy keynote to open or close your event, a focused breakout that gives your audience practical tools to take back to work, or a custom-built session designed around your organization’s specific theme – the goal is always the same: your people leave the room different than they walked in.

Reclaiming Brilliance™

Finding Your Way Back to the Leader You Were Built to Be

Every leader in your audience has a moment. A specific, vivid memory of themselves performing at a level that felt almost effortless – when they owned the room, led through the impossible, or made a decision that was exactly right. They haven’t forgotten it. They’ve just lost the thread back to it.

This keynote starts there – in that moment – and doesn’t let go until every person in the room has named it, claimed it, and has a clear line of sight to performing at that level again. The Reclaiming Brilliance™ framework gives them the tools to do exactly that: a language for their own peak performance, a map back to it, and a system to sustain it.

The Six Zones of Brilliance

Brilliance isn’t one-size-fits-all. It shows up differently in different leaders – and one of the first things this keynote does is give your audience a precise language for the kind of brilliance they’ve already demonstrated. The Six Zones aren’t a personality test or a career category. They’re a map of where peak performance actually lives for each individual leader – and once a leader can name their zone, they can find their way back to it on purpose.

Zone 1

Strategic

Identifying and owning the specific intersection of your unique strengths, passion, and organizational needs. When this zone is firing, leaders stop reacting to noise and start leading with vision.

Zone 2

Simple Brilliance

Simplifying complex problems, explaining intricate concepts clearly, achieving results with elegant methods. The leaders people bring their hardest problems to are almost always operating here.

Zone 3

Operational Excellence

Maintaining high-level performance despite disruptions, adversity, or environmental changes. Not just surviving the storm — performing through it.

Zone 4

Superb Transformation

Taking what is already performing well and transforming it into something superb. The most overlooked leadership opportunity — and one of the most powerful.

Zone 5

Habits of Excellence

The relentless, daily application of high standards — not perfection — where results become dependable rather than accidental. The unglamorous secret behind every brilliant outcome.

Zone 6

Elevating Others

Achieving goals by elevating everyone around you, sharing knowledge freely, placing collective success above personal credit. The zone that multiplies every other zone on this list.

Lead From Your Why™

Naming your zone is the beginning. The Three Foundations are what make it stick – moving each leader from a single recalled moment to sustained, purposeful performance that doesn’t require a crisis to activate.

Foundation 1 — Purpose

The anchor that holds your performance to something meaningful.

Foundation 2 — Growth

The intentional, planned practice that closes the gap between where you are and where you’ve already been.

Foundation 3 — Potential

The recognition that the leader your audience is trying to become is already inside them – already documented in their best moments, already real.

I bring decades of real leadership experience – corporate, entrepreneurial, community, collegiate – to every workshop and keynote.  I’ll share stories and moments that are relatable, connecting, and real world then I’ll draw out their own stories from attendees.

45–90 minutes · In-person or virtual · Custom-built for your event theme and audience

If you’re building a leadership event where you need the room to leave changed – not just informed – let’s find out if this is the right fit.

Breakout Session 1

Lead From Your Why™

Purpose That Performs

Most leaders can describe what they do in ten seconds. Ask them why it matters – to them, specifically, at a level that goes deeper than the job title or the paycheck – and the room goes quiet. That gap between what and why isn’t a personal failing. It’s what happens when the pace of professional life crowds out the question that drives performance more than any other.

This session closes that gap. In 45–55 focused minutes, participants work through the Personal Why Statement process – a structured, research-backed exercise drawn from the Purpose foundation of the Reclaiming Brilliance™ framework. They don’t leave with a theory about purpose. They leave with their own.

What the session covers

  • Why most leaders can’t answer the ‘why’ question honestly – and what that silence costs them in confidence, energy, and staying power
  • The research case: purpose-driven leaders report measurably higher confidence, resilience, and productivity, and stay longer in roles that fit their why
  • A live, guided walk through the Personal Why Statement process – participants draft their own in the room
  • How to test whether a why statement is genuinely yours or a polished version of someone else’s expectations
  • Connecting your why to daily decisions, team leadership, and the organizational goals already on your plate
  • What changes – specifically – when a leader operates from clear personal purpose versus obligation, habit, or external pressure

Breakout Session 2

The Gap Is the Map™

Growth with Intention

Every leader in a performance slump has a story about how they got there. The team that changed. The role that expanded faster than the support around it. The season of life that quietly drained the reserves. What they share isn’t the story – it’s what they’ve done with the gap. Most treat it as evidence of something wrong with them. This session starts from a different premise entirely: a gap you can name is a gap you can close.

In 45–55 minutes, participants move from awareness to action – working through the Growth foundation of the Reclaiming Brilliance™ framework to build a personal 30-day growth plan that’s specific, intentional, and tied to the performance they know they’re capable of. Not a generic development checklist. A real system built around their real gap.

What the session covers

  • Why high performers hit plateaus – and why the usual response of working harder makes it worse, not better
  • The mindset shift that changes everything: treating setbacks and slumps as information rather than verdicts
  • Four qualities that separate growth that actually works from growth that just looks good on a development plan – planned, intentional, shared, and enjoyable
  • Why goals alone don’t move performance – and what a real growth system looks like in practice
  • Building a personal 30-day growth focus: one specific gap, one clear target, one accountable next step
  • What it feels like when growth aligns with purpose – and why that alignment is the difference between discipline and momentum

Breakout Session 3

Already Brilliant™

Activating Potential That Already Exists

If someone who had watched you at your absolute best – a mentor, a trusted colleague, someone who’d seen you when everything clicked – were to describe the leader you’re capable of being, would that match how you’re showing up right now? For most leaders, the honest answer is no. Not because the talent left. Because somewhere between the daily demands and the quiet weight of unexplored possibilities, a gap opened between who they are and who they already have the capacity to be.

This session closes that gap – not by asking leaders to become someone different, but by helping them step fully into who they already are. The research is clear: the ceiling most people accept as fixed is, in nearly every case, a belief rather than a boundary. This breakout is about changing that belief with evidence leaders already have — their own best moments.

What the session covers

  • Why the gap between who a leader is today and who they’re capable of being is almost never a talent problem – and what it actually is
  • The research case: the performance ceiling most leaders accept as fixed is, in nearly every case, a belief rather than a boundary
  • How to identify your highest version – using your own best moments as evidence, not nostalgia
  • Naming honestly what’s blocking the return to that level – without judgment, and without staying there
  • Connecting potential to purpose: why a stretch goal that doesn’t align with your why runs out of fuel every time
  • The five-step Potential Activation Plan – participants leave with one bold move and the clarity to act on it
  • Why potential isn’t a destination you reach once – it’s a daily choice, and this session gives you a way to make it

Note for Event Planners

Built to stand alone. Built to build on each other.

The three breakout sessions – Lead From Your Why, The Gap Is the Map, and Already Brilliant — are designed to stand alone or work together. Delivered sequentially, they follow the full arc of the Reclaiming Brilliance™ framework:

This makes them an ideal set for a full conference day or a multi-day leadership event, giving your audience a cohesive, building experience rather than three separate conversations. Contact David to discuss how to sequence and structure them for your specific event format.
